Frequently asked questions

Why should I go to therapy?

Therapy is a deeply personal process that can bring greater insight and self-awareness, clarify life goals and personal meaning, and provide tools for resilience and healing. It is also an interactive and dynamic process in which the client is supported with looking honestly at  themselves and reflecting on how past experiences have shaped and impact current behaviors, feelings and thoughts about oneself, others and life. In this way, therapy can bring about feelings of relief, catharsis, and a sense of increased self-acceptance and self-advocacy.

How do we begin working together?

Please contact me to schedule a free 20 minute phone call where we will briefly discuss what’s bringing you to therapy and to clarify any questions you may have. Next we’ll schedule your initial appointment. I will follow up through email with some forms for you to fill out before we meet.

During our first session, we will discuss your history, current concerns, and goals for working together. If we choose to move forward after the first session, we will begin a series of a sessions where we get to know each other, dive deeper and begin to clarify your goals. This period also allows us to see how I can best serve your needs.

Along the way I will be offering you a safe and nurturing space to explore and learn about yourself, while providing you with practical tools and skills to begin using in your life right away.

How much do you charge?

My fee is $180 for a 50 minute session. I do not currently take insurance. However, I provide a monthly statement that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have coverage for out-of-network therapy providers. I am happy to provide you with a list of questions you can ask your insurance provider about whether your particular coverage includes these benefits.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

The length of therapy is in large part based on your commitment to the process and the goals we have identified together. Initially I recommend a weekly commitment, although it is natural to transition to bi-weekly and monthly sessions as therapy progresses.  I will support you with identifying the goals you would like to address and will check in regularly to see how you are feeling with the progress.  For some clients there is a clear end date once they have made progress on their goals; other clients prefer to keep therapy open-ended and to use it as an on-going resource.

Are you the right fit for me?

Therapy is a personal process that is deeply enhanced by the connection and safety felt between client and therapist.  In short, the “fit” is important, and as such, I encourage all potential clients to ask questions and to consider the fit before committing to therapy.  There are many local therapists and I am happy to offer referrals to meet your needs.
